The old sepia photograph in the slideshow was taken in 1906 when the forge was one of many busy social and working hubs in the village of Brant Broughton.
When we took on The Old Forge in November 2015 our aim was to breathe new life into the building and the High Street by providing a small village shop selling as many local and Lincolnshire products as feasible.
In brief these are fruit, veg, cut flowers, plants, planted baskets and containers. A floristry service is available. We also supply convenience items such as newspapers and magazines, Fresh Local Bakery bread and cakes, sandwiches, snacks, milk, butter, cream, cheese, bacon, local eggs, local honey, cold drinks, Piper's crisps, sweets and chocolates, Dennett's ice cream, logs, kindling and solid fuel, Greetings Cards, hand-crafted real gemstone jewellery etc. There is a self-serve hot drinks facility offering a choice of beverages. A fantastic range of preserves and conserves in stock as well as an ever-increasing range of produce and essentials. We also have a small freezer with a selection of ready meals, chips, peas and pizzas etc.
The little shop is a bit like a tardis with lots of useful bits and bobs such as batteries and fuses, inexpensive gifts, cough sweets and cold remedies for instance in every nook and cranny!
It is always a good idea to place your order for bread and cakes (Tues, Thurs and Saturday deliveries) and newspapers and magazines so we can guarantee you won't be disappointed.
As well as having the occasional hand-tied bouquet of fresh flowers and fresh flower arrangements made up for over the counter sales we take orders for most floristry items with free delivery in the village.
There is an Outreach Post Office facility in The Old Forge every Weds from 9.30am - 12.30pm.
We want to continue with our progress and as such welcome your suggestions and comments. We have been aware that we wouldn't get everything right from the start but with your help we hope we have gone a long way to building a village shop to fit the village's needs as well as those travelling through our beautiful village.
